Asthma Attacks and Self-Hypnosis

One treatment program that is becoming more popular is hypnosis or hypnotherapy. Hypnosis treatment for asthma has the goal of causing relaxation, which can help to prevent or reduce your symptoms when having an attack...

Using hypnosis, the individual can treat the emotional aspects of an attack, which have the ability to make it much more severe. It is only human nature to become scared or feel threatened when we feel our air supply being cut off. This instinctual reaction actually can and will heighten the severity of an attack. Similar feelings of fear and apprehension about having an attack can actually bring on an attack. These emotional causes and reactions are handled with the asthma treatment method of self-hypnosis...

Basic Relaxation Meditation

Short and sweet (especially good after a bath or shower).

For this one lying on the floor is actually best. Please try not to fall asleep though! Put your palms down on the floor by your sides. Your feet should be just a few inches apart.

OK. Now just lie still for a few seconds. Let your thoughts gradually quieten down. Without any force at all let your breathing become naturally deep and regular. Now feel the weight of your body on the floor.

Now we're going to very quickly just 'name' some parts of the body in turn. Centre your consciousness briefly on each of these parts as you name them to yourself. Toes, feet, ankles, calves, knees, thoughs, groin, midriff, chest, shoulders, hands, arms, neck and head. Be aware of any areas where there is particular tension. OK? Now I'll just explain the next bit before we do it.

What we're going to do is spend five seconds making our whole bodies as tense as we possibly can. Then we're going to release all of that tension in one go, pushing it out and up and away from us. But before we do this, on the count of three take a long deep breath in. One, two, three -now tense as many muscles in your body as you possibly can, and when I count three push the air in your lungs out at the same time as you let go of every last little bit of that tension. One, two, three -push away the stress!

Now concentrate on your breathing. Breathing in through the nose and out through the nose is best here, but find some other way if that is uncomfortable for you. Let your breaths be deep, and let your mind be still. Just watch the way you take in the air and how it fills your lungs. Hold the air in your lungs for just for a second or two before you breathe out, and wait for just a second or two before you breathe in again. Just watch your breath for thirty seconds or so. If you get distracted or your mind wanders, then gently bring it back.

Now try and maintain the sense that by letting the body relax, and by allowing the mind to be still, so you are letting all parts of the system become more integrated. By simply being calm, and aware, you are letting bodymind become more balanced. More efficient. More energised. Be calm in this attitude for another minute or so.

Now gradually bring yourself out of the meditation, slowly bringing your attention back to where you are. nildram

Right Brain vs Left Brain Creativity Test

Information About This Test

The Brain Type Test is based on the various characteristics associated specifically with each hemisphere of the brain. This test produces results unique to each individual's own left and right hemispheres. Many of the methods used here were pioneered by Dr. Roger Sperry's research on brain lateralization, for which he won a Nobel Prize in 1981.
The test examines the categories of linear, sequential, symbolic, logical, verbal, and reality-based, which are associated with the left hemisphere. It also examines the categories of holistic, random, concrete, intuitive, nonverbal, and fantasy-oriented, which are associated with the right hemisphere. There are always exceptions, and while the majority of humans are going to be classified as being left-brained or right-brained, one goal we have as humans is to strive to utilize both halves of the brain when processing information.
Speed is not a factor. Answer the questions as truthfully as you can.

Are You Left-Brained or Right-Brained?

The brain is composed of two hemispheres, known as the left and right hemisphere. While each hemisphere has unique functions, which one side performs and the other does not, both hemispheres possess the ability to analyze sensory data, perform memory functions, learn new information, form thoughts, and make decisions.
The way you use these abilities determines a large part of your personality and behavior. By the time we, as humans, are two years old, one hemisphere begins to dominate your decision-making process. Communication between the two halves is possible due to the corpus callosum and this process continues to improve until the age of 15.
The left hemisphere specializes in analytical thought. It is responsible for dealing with "hard" facts such as abstractions, structure, discipline, rules, time sequences, mathematics, categorizing, logic, rationality, and deductive reasoning. It is also responsible for details, knowledge, definitions, planning, goals, words, productivity, efficiency, science, technology, stability, extraversion, physical activity, and the right side of the body. Left hemisphere ability is the predominant focus in school and society.
The right hemisphere specializes in "softer" aspects than the left hemisphere. The right hemisphere is responsible for intuition, feelings, sensitivity, emotions, daydreaming, visualizing, creativity, color, spatial awareness, and first impressions. It is also responsible for rhythm, spontaneity, impulsiveness, the physical senses, risk-taking, flexibility and variety, learning by experience, relationships, mysticism, play and sports, introversion, humor, motor skills, and the left side of the body (the old belief that left-handed people are more creative does hold some scientific credence). The right hemisphere also has a holistic method of perception that is able to recognize patterns and similarities and combines those elements into new forms.
The Brain Type Test will determine which half is your dominant half, and to what degree. The test consists of 54 questions and may be completed in about 10 minutes. After completing the test, you will be given your free left and right brain score. You will also be given a small detailed paragraph explaining the characteristics that are associated with your dominant side. You will then be granted the option to purchase a full, detailed evaluation, which will provide analysis of the characteristics associated with each side of the brain. The detailed evaluation explains in great detail the exact nature of your brain's halves' ability to communicate with each other and how that communication affects your life in how you learn, remember, process data, and contemplate issues.

Free Biorhythms

Biorhythm charts illustrate the principle that we are influenced by physical, emotional, and intellectual cycles. Many people report that they can improve the quality of their lives by monitoring the highs and lows of these cycles and acting accordingly. For example, you might try to schedule important exams during your intellectual highs, avoid talking to your significant other during your emotional lows, or arranging the lineup of your baseball team around their physical highs.

Ideomotor Signaling

This month’s tip is about one of the most powerful techniques in hypnosis – ideomotor signaling.
An ideomotor signal is way to communicate non-verbally.
Ideomotor techniques are powerful for a number of reasons. Since the unconscious mind functions on more of a metaphorical level, a level dealing with imagery and imagination rather than logic, methods that use the body and emotions rather than our verbal skills are highly effective in reaching that part the mind.
In other words, if you are getting non-verbal responses from your client (or from yourself), you are communicating with the part the mind you need to communicate with.
Using ideomotor movements communicates with unconscious, pre-verbal parts of the mind. Since many problems also originate in pre-verbal parts of the mind this technique can be highly effective.
Because ideomotor movements do not include verbal responses, what we must do it is set up a communication system that does not include speaking. The easiest way to do this is with a pendulum. see Ideomotor Signaling
